Lauren Harris - "Calm Before The Storm"
Calm Before The Storm is the debut CD from Lauren Harris. I had heard the early buzz on this disc and was eagerly anticipating its arrival. What I found when I popped this disc into my player was quite notable and frankly better than expected. Ms. Harris' voice is extremely versatile, it is powerful when the situation dictates but it is equally effective in the less rocking tunes slower tempo tunes.
Every song on Calm Before The Storm is jam-packed full of great big harmonies and catchy grooves that will make this CD instantly radio friendly and more than approachable to fans of commercial rock and roll as the whole album has a sort of Pop Rock feel to it.
Two aspects of this disc really caught my attention. First of all the production is exceptional. I am a fan of big, polished, well-produced records and I think this one fits the bill completely. The second thing worth noting is the killer guitar playing found throughout much of the CD. Tasteful shredding is woven into the fabric of each song making them very enjoyable to listen to.
The opening tune, “Steal Your Fire,” is by far my favorite track on the disc and is definitely a song that I think highlights the vocal prowess of singer Ms. Harris as well as some of the previously mentioned guitar work.
At the end of the day I feel that Calm Before The Storm, while not your typical metal fare, has something to offer just about everyone. Granted you may not be banging your head to the songs on this disc, but if you are a fan of solid, well-written and very well-produced music, you will want to check this one, it is pretty good.
